Designing for a short-term rental is a different sport. The brief isn't "what does the homeowner love" — it's what photographs in the listing, holds up to weekly turnover, and gives a guest something to remember. Every piece in this Delray living room had to do all three.
This design is for the investor that wants to impress guests and appreciates a good value. This is not the round up of the cheapest items, rather items that are all priced very well considering what they are. Marble top tables, performance fabric, etc.
The starting point was the green velvet sofa. Color in an STR is a calculated risk. Beige is safer. Green is bookable. It anchors the space, photographs warm against the cane and walnut, and gives the listing something Pinterest would call its own. The fluted console behind it does the quiet work — storage that doesn't look like storage.
I paired the sofa with a single velvet accent chair instead of a matching pair. Pairs read sleepy in photos. One sculpted chair, off-axis, gives a listing photographer something to compose around.
Marble and walnut on the coffee and side tables — round, soft-cornered, unfussy. Two notes about marble in a rental: it photographs better than wood at every angle, and round edges save you from the toddler-knee email.
The cheetah-pattern rug is the call I'd defend in any STR. It hides sand, wine, mystery sticky. It reads designer-grade in thumbnails. Guests notice it. Reviewers mention it.
The rest is in service of warmth. A jute floor lamp instead of overhead glare. A rattan table lamp on a ceramic base. Boucle pillows in a tight tonal range. Bauhaus prints add a graphic moment without trying too hard. The faux palm in a concrete planter does the work a real plant can't — every guest, every week, photo-ready.
If you're furnishing a rental and want it to outperform the comps in your market, this is the formula: one calculated color call, durable round-edged surfaces, a rug that hides everything, and one piece guests will photograph and tag.
